City of Clifton/Vining

Clifton’s main street, Parallel Street, separates the community between Washington and Clay Counties.  Also sharing the main street with Clifton, is the City of Vining to the West.  The combined population is 550.  Clifton was laid out in 1870 in anticipation of the railroad, which arrived in 1877.  Berner Memorial Park is located along Parallel Street, offering RV hook-ups, baseball/softball diamonds and playground equipment.  While the swimming pool is open during the summer months, LCL Buffalo Ranch proves an opportunity for visitors to view the grazing herd of buffalo.  Visitors can also tour the Heartland Museum located on the Ranch west of Clifton on KS Hwy 9.  Located within the city, the Clifton Museum depicts the history of the City and is housed in an old Railroad Depot.

Lodging at Sunflower Inn, located in downtown Clifton, is a favorite for hunters.  Other dining options include Miss Marie’s Diner and Tailgators.  The Clifton American Legion sponsored Annual Veteran’s Day Parade is held on November 11th.
